Nikon d750 shutter problem

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

I have a d750 that I have owned from new. I hasn't seen loads of use 10-20k photos. Every now and again the shutter would stick for one photo and then be fine again.

However earlier this year, the shutter would stay down on every photo and take a black photo with "err" coming up in view finder. Another click would release the shutter but it would do it again every time.

I put it into the local camera store for repair and the guy couldn't fix it, he tried a few things and they didn't work. He said the next step would cost over $1000 to fix. So I didn't go for it. However, shortly afterI got it back from him It worked and has been flawless for 6 months, until now.

The shutter is sticking again and the camera won't take photos again. Has anyone else had this problem here? Or does anyone have any insight or advice as to what I should do?

Thanks for you time, people.

Aside from making absolutely sure it's not caused by a camera setting such as mirror up (MUP), I can't think of anything else that would cause this.

I doubt it's $1000 for a fix. I'd send it to Nikon to get a quote. If I recall, some D750s had shutter problems in the past. They may do it for free, who knows? Certainly worth shipping it off and getting a quote IMO.

I was thinking maybe I should send it back to Nikon, wasn't sure how to go about it.
At first I felt like it would just do it every now and again with third party lenses, but now it's all batteries, lenses settings etc.

Go to the Nikon website and you can fill out the paperwork that they send you. I think it might be under Support, haven't done it for awhile.

The page for the shutter recall is still up at:

To schedule a repair:

Good luck.

I have a second hand D750 that I bought earlier this year that was listed by serial number under a Nikon recall for faulty shutters and had not been serviced.
@Dan291 thanks that is the link.
The camera was sent off by the company I was buying the camera from before it was sent to me, great service.
I got a repaired/new(?) shutter and a full operational test from Nikon, all free in my case, bonus.

You’re welcome.
I bought my D750, new, sometime back. I checked for a service advisory... just in case.
I bought a D810 used. The first things I did was verify the shutter count I’d been quoted and checked for a service advisory.

Yeah, as you can see, I’m one of THOSE kind of people.😜
