Nikon D850 off camera flash.

Hi all, thanks for the add. I have a question that I can't seem to get a proper answer for. I previously had a D750 with a built in flash which I used to trigger my slave flashes. I've just got a new D850 and also a couple of SB800 flash units, I was wondering what my options were now for using the flashes off camera, there isn't a built in flash on the D850?

You can use one of the SB-800's on the camera (or wired off camera) to trigger the other off camera as long as the red IR receiver of the remote flash unit can see (line of sight) the front of the one on the camera). You must go into the SB800 menu and set the master as such and the remote as such. When set up properly and assuming you have the line of sight (allowable max distance may vary with conditions) you can control both using the on-camera sb800 as the master control unit. I've used up to 4 SB800's all fired from the D850 in this manner. Be sure to set the same channel on all, groups can be used to add multiple units using the same settings. I know a guy who used 12 of these for a set-up.
While I used a D4 for this, I had 4 SB800's wireless:

@Robert Sparrow As has been said, use one SB800 as a master for theCLS. The Debaou flash controller is better thanan SU800 and cost £70, but I think they are no longer in production. After using the CLS system and the Debaou for many years I switched to radio triggers initially with Godox, but when I found that you can get re-branded Godox units cheaper and with more warranty I would recommend the re-brands. Several available in the UK but my pick is Pixapro from Essential Photo. In the USA Adorama Flashponit are re-branded Godox. You can get receivers that the SB800s mount on yhat give full TTL or manual.

Yes I've just come across the Debaou, and then i found the Yougnuo 622N, I was wondering how they compare in functionality with the SU 800?

My debaou was superior in every respect to an SU800. The head could swivel and it has longer range. I saw many reviews that said this so I never bought an SU 800, but did look at them in store. After using radio triggering I'd never go back though.

I have 4 SB-800 speedlights but I needed the SU-800 to fire them with my D8xx cameras and now with the Z9 and also for use with the great Nikon R1 wireless speedlights for macro photography.

For product photography I use multiple flash units with the 4 Nikon SB-800 speedlights and one or two Quantum Qflash and they all are controlled with iTTL. I subscribe to the Eugene Smith axiom of using available light or in his words "every damn light that is available".
