Nikon supertelephoto lens history

Is there a good chart or explanation of which year each nikon lens was released.


When looking at the different iterations of the 600 f/4, 500 f/4 and 400 f/2.8 lenses, it is extremely confusing to tell which year each was from, how many generations ago each is and what a good price for each is.

Does someone know this info?

I’ve found Ken Rockwell has a very good catalog of Nikon lens history. He goes into great detail on production dates, quantities, specs etc.

The insteresting thing is that it is also listen serial number ranges depending on the manufacturing country or the market the lens was made for.
