The Z system optics are on target. This trio of fast Dragons are arguably the best made to date: Not only superb optics in their own right, but especially with the flexibility enabled for filters on the 14-24, and TCs on the 70-200. Collectively, Nikon have also pruned the net weaight of the set

I'm yet another also watching and waiting for the 2nd gen of Z cameras. At minimum, if they are going to sell for wildlife, these must match : (1) capabilities of a D850 ie at least the AFC prowess of the D5 AF engine: even better if AFC is closer to the D6; (2) the Z6s/Z7s must have a grip (ie taking ENEL18) and (3) above all, pack the full house of Custom Menu options. All for the better if Nikon add more Fn/AF buttons to match the D6, and equally options to exploit Recall Custom Functions etc. [Brad Hill posted a more complete list recently]
WRT optics, these Z system engineers are fairly explicit about Nikon's priorities in this interview, published in March. The 2nd part is mainly about the 58 f0.95 Noct but includes a couple of telling snippets. A couple of intriguing hints about extending the diversity of Z Nikkors, which exploit the optical advantages of the new mount.

Clearly, this younger generation of "lensigneers" have their act together (pity about Nikon marketing!).
Once we have the 24-105 S, it should pair rather well with the 14-30 f4S for many wildlife photographers (travellers too). We also have the compact 24-200 f4.5/6.3 in the Z system, which is the closest upgrade to the excellent nifty 28-200 G [AFD], which is still the smallest FX made in its class. I use this as the main kit zoom on my D780.
The 100-400 S will be a keystone lens for wildlife. It is probably going to cost a rather large chunk of £3k! If it's only f3.5/5.6 then it would probably be better to use the 70-200 f2.8S with TC2-Z. As the feedback is the new Z-Nikkor TCs are excellent. Far better if we have the option of a 100-400 f4S, which could manage on 105mm filters, but a rear internal will be ideal (as in the exotics). As with the 500 PF and 200-500 etc, the hood blocks access to a CPL. (Nikon messed with the huge front filter! The showstopper on the otherwise excellent 120-300 f2.8E, it's useless in the tropics, and for water sports etc .)
