I am using AF-C with subject detection turned off, wide area small, and BBAF. When I press the BBAF, the green focus boxes jump all around the screen. What causes this?

What are you attempting to focus on? What's in the background? Is it a low light situation? Without knowing more of the situation, I'd say that AF is attempting to find focus on whatever is in the field of view, and this doesn't seem to be unusual behavior.

Not low light. I think I've narrowed it down to custom control setting. Troubleshooting further at the moment. Thanks for your response.

Sounds like the back button is set to af on plus auto area mode.
