Hi everyone,
I've done a sift and couldn't find anyone mentioning this particular problem, which seems to have arisen since I updated my Nikon Z8 with the newest firmware.
In a nutshell:
Focus shift seems to not trigger a hotshoe-mounted flash (I'm using a Godox V860III), unless the 'interval until next shot' is set to 1sec or longer. Silent shooting is disabled, and 'first frame exposure lock' seems not to make a difference either way (both settings mentioned in other posts about focus shift & flash). Before I updated the firmware, during focus shift shooting the flash fired happily with the interval set to '0'. I had the flash power dialled down enough and it could keep up at 1/16 power or less, even for long stacks. In this new situation, it's not a question of the flash not keeping up, it just doesn't fire at all - the camera blasts through the series and the flash does nothing. Slowing the interval down to 1sec or less allows the flash to fire, but the intervals are so slow that most critters move, or I do, and it just isn't a useable feature.
I'm curious if others notice this problem, or if it's just me. If anyone has any insights in resolving this they'd be warmly welcomed.
Cheers,
Robin.
