Nikon Z8, Mac OS Sequoia 15.1.1, and Darktable - trouble with RAW

Hi, I have Mac OS 15.1.1 and according to the System report, the Z8 is supported. However, I can only view jpegs from the camera in Preview, not the RAW files. It is set for just RAW.

There is a post from Feb this year saying support for z8 RAWs had arrived, which is where I found out how to check the system report. However it seems this support is not working, at least for me.

The other issue I have is I use Darktable and have the latest version for Mac, 4.8.1, but I have the same problem there. It will show me jpeg thumbnails but cannpt open the RAWs in Lightroom. I have not been able to find any info on this.

Can anyone assist?

Try upgrading to 15.2.

I think I read that lossless raw is the only supported version. So if you are using one of the high efficiency raws it may not display. At least until there is another update.

Only Lossless Compressed RAW images are supported. Neither of the High Efficiency RAW types will be visible as thumbnails or in Preview.

In case it helps: you can use Adobe DNG Converter, if you want to process your .NEF high-efficiency files in Darktable (as .dng files). Use those preferences (though not embedding the JPEG is a personal preference):
