Hi all. I'm thinking of purchasing a Z8. Does it have a viewfinder switch that closes the viewfinder like the D500 has. Can't see this on images of the camera i've looked at. Also, if not, is it necessary?

Not necessary. That was needed to avoid light "leaking" in through the viewfinder optical path to the film/sensor in SLR/DSLR days, especially for long exposure. With mirrorless, there is no optical path, you're viewing a screen.
