Headed up into the Tetons hoping to see this evening's forecast aurora and was rewarded with a great light show coming in waves and changing colors. Just took a quick look at the uploaded files and here's a few that jumped out at me.

Most of the activity was to the North and NorthWest but I turned around to see this in the Southern sky which was some of the most interesting patterns of the night.

Will have to go through all the files but it's crazy late (early?) and it's way past time for bed :)

Went out yesterday, to the darkest (still not really dark) place nearby, as it happens there is a castle just north of a small hill, need to upload some pics later today. It was spectacular, even strong enough for a while to see it with the naked eye, in color and not just grey (the place is classified as barely green on the darkness map, like 6 level brighter than dark).

Maybe I'll try and hit a local lake tonight to get some reflections, we'll see. Clouds are closing in a bit already...

Very nice shots from the Tentons so!

Beautiful 👍👍👍

Wow, great shots! Thanks for posting.
We are in a much less remote location but still had great views. But mostly in camera- with the naked eye it was a pink glow with some striations. I posted a couple of shots on a different thread. We still consider ourselves incredibly lucky to see it as far south as the Bay Area in California!

@DRwyoming - I'm guessing the Rokinon 14mm f/2.4 SP F mount adapted using the FTZ? Supposed to be good for astro...
Exactly, I love this lens for wide field astro work. I prefer the direct mechanical manual focus to my focus by wire native Z lenses for night work.

Sorry about the slow reply, camped last night a long way from lights or cell service hoping for another great light show. Was definitely some aurora there last night and captured some images that I can work with but nothing like the previous night. Could barely tell there was color in the sky with the naked eye but longer exposures brought some color and texture out.

np, thanks, Dave! I've been tempted by some of the Voigtlander lenses for similar reasons (mech, manual focus, but also APO - for landscape work). In my correspondence with Spencer at photographylife.com he said they will likely review those sometime soon-ish. I was unaware that any of the samyang/rokinon lenses were of that level of quality - very nice! I'm hoping Nikon does a 14mm f/1.8 or something that is stellar (ok haha sry).

Side note: I think that the camera/lens makers will eventually figure out a UI for focus-by-wire that will exceed mechanical focus ;) (ok yea I can think of a way to do it haha).

Cheers, and hopes for more auroras. I still want to see the dancing green ones.

...Dave...

Yeah, I'd love to see a button press jump to hyperfocal settings for the given aperture and focal length. That would be one application of focus by wire that would make a huge difference for both landscape and astro work.
