Hi all.

Here is a Cheetah with its prey. Taken in Tanzania, Africa.

Those are truly special moments to witness and capture. I was lucky enough to see those 3 brothers hunt in Tanzania over 18 years ago. Of course it was in the olden "film days" and my Eos1v with 500mm f:4.5 loaded with Provia 100F did not capture a single useable picture of the action packed hunt (notice I blame it on the gear, not my gross incompetence :) ) but I was able to catch a few good shots of the meal afterwards. It was end morning so the light was certainly not as lovely as the OP's shot.

Very nice FB101. These are special moments. Sorry to hear you couldn't grab any of the hunt.

Great series of Cheetah shots Jim, I've been lucky enough to see most of the big cats in 3 continents, but only witnessed one hunt and kill --- that was in South Luangwa with a pride of 6 lionesses and an adult hippo --- it was both gruesome and mesmerising as they couldn't suffocate it with a throat grip (neck and throat too large ) so 2 cats held the head down while the other 4 ate it alive from the back end foward. We had to leave after 3/4 hour to get back to camp and the poor hippo was still alive then -- you could hear the cats tearing out the innards quite clearly and several of the ladies in our group were very unhappy ! The guides emphasized how rare it was to see this sort of kill taking place --too dark to get much in the way of photos though.

Thanks David.

Happy to hear of your opportunity to witness the hippo attack, rare.

Hi David

Here is a bull being eaten alive by three lionesses. I watched for 20 minutes or so and he was bellowing the whole time. I think they were staying away from his horns.
