Not So Smooth Tripod Rotating Collar Nikon 500mm f/4 G lens

Is there a way to lubricate or do something to smooth out the rotating tripod collar on this lens? I know the lens is heavy but rotating it while mounted on a monopod or tripod (gimbal head) is a bit hard. I can lift the lens up a bit to unweight it in the collar but all of my other lenses (none quite this heavy) don't require this for smooth rotation. I would like to have the free action in a gimbal head to move and rotate the lens around without having to be concerned.

Hopefully I'm wrong, but I don't think the collar on that lens is user-serviceable. I think it's something you have to send back to Nikon. That's probably what I'd do. Also, it could be more than just lubrication too.
