NPS membership

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

I just updated to the Pro+ membership and have to send in my 200-500 lens. I can't find the NPS loaner info anywhere on their site. I called them and find out NPS is not loaning out equipment during corvid. This is nuts. I just receiver a Nikkor 18mmF2.8 from Roberts and a Nikkor 1000mmF:11 from Japan and I didn't get the virus with either shipment. So what did I get for my $149.99 plus tx?

Ouch - that's crazy. There's no reason they can't loan glass due to COVID. They can clean it between loans (besides, the CDC says fomite transmission is exceedingly rare).

Although there is nothing funny about it, my wife and I kind of jokingly say COVID is to blame for everything which does seem to be pretty close to truth.

It could be that it is just a ripple effect of COVID, maybe staffing, resource availability, or some other reason the practice has been suspended. I also think it might simply be a money saving move that is covered under the COVID umbrella so no one will notice.

I think its a type of truth in advertising thing, after all there is nothing on their update page for Pro+ that says they are not shipping, They could make the loans and then expose the equipment to ultra violet light (I think) and clean them that way maybe. Besides the 2 lens I got already I've received my new "The American Eagle" coffee table book. UPS delivered it. The driver set it on my front porch, rang the door bell and ran back to his truck before I could get to the door. No problem here either.

Good News. I just talked to Nikon Professional Services about their equipment loan program. It is still functioning and I just asked for a 500mmF:5.6. My call to Nikon help the other day, the person I talked to had the wrong information. The NPS loaner program is up and running.

There you go , I guess your $149.99 plus tx was well spent after all (y) ..

How long will you be able to keep the lens on Loan for ?

It will be 2 weeks. In 1996 I borrowed a 600mmF:4 and went to Haines Ak and spent 2 week shooting eagles. Since it was November and nothing was happening in the country they let me keep another week.

Wow 3 weeks shooting with a 600m f/4 ..

I guess I have to ask “”Did it make you want to run out and buy one”” ?

I bought a 600mmF:4G VR used in 2016. I've been a NPS member since 1975 so I've had 2 600mm loaners. Once in 1996 and again in 2013 where I got a D4 and the 600mmF:4 G. These lenses are spectacular to use and when I put my D810 behind it "WOW"
