This month marks my one year anniversary with the Nikon Z9 and 800mm f/6.3 VR S. I upgraded from a Nikon D500 paired with a 200-500mm f/5.6E VR that had been my primary bird and wildlife kit since 2018. I'm celebrating by sharing a selection of favorite wildlife and bird photos from the last 12 months. All were made in northern Arizona, USA near the village of Mormon Lake.
A pronghorn doe pauses her morning graze to nurse her fawns. Pronghorn often give birth to twins.
A male northern harrier hawk hunts a field atop the rim overlooking Mormon Lake.
Elk bulls roam a fog-enshrouded meadow during the autumn rut.
Juvenile red-tailed hawk in-flight.
A ferruginous hawk soars high overhead with the San Francisco Peaks as a backdrop.
A mule deer stands for its portrait
Standoff between a coyote and newborn elk in a northern Arizona meadow.
Sharp-shinned hawk.
