Ordered a Sony A1 II

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

This is what my dealer in Canada told me after meeting with Sony last week..... 😡

"Well…it’s quite terrible. We have seen what Sony is getting for incoming shipments for the whole country in the coming months and it is almost nothing. Not sure why they are so supply challenged on these. It’s brutal! At this point I am not sure when we will be able to get you one. Not sure if the US is taking most of the production or what. I am hoping it will get better. We are a top 5 Sony dealer, so they share this info with us."

That said, a guy on FM said his dealer (George's Camera in San Diego) is getting five A1II in and none were spoken for as of a few days ago. Those in the US could look them up and give them a call.

On their website it says in-store only. I called and they don't do any sort of shipping on them.

Wow that supply chain is grim! I ordered mine immediately after orders were first accepted at B&H and have had it since late December. Setup took awhile, lots of new (and a couple of renamed) menu items. I took a shortcut and subscribed to Mark Galer's website and got his camset, which I installed and then changed a number of settings that I preferred to his.

I'm really glad I pre-ordered the camera once the rumours of the release started. Initially it didn't appear that it would be a popular upgrade and availability wasn't going to be a problem but it appears it has been. Hopefully they can get production up tp everyone can get theirs in short order.

I ordered my A1 ii from B & H on Nov. 20, 2024, and I received it last Tuesday, Jan. 14. This info doesnt help those waiting for delivery or deciding what to do but the following info might. Yesterday I had my first opportunity to test it in the field, a blustery cold day in Austin, TX, where Im visiting my daughter. My setup is partial and based on my A1 so probably not optimal. The 2 attached shots were both taken without precapture as I spotted the birds and fired away, and the camera/lens (300 f/2.8 + 2X TC) combo grabbed focus on 90% of 25-30 shots. My impression is this new rig is a significant improvement over the A1 and worth the upgrade.

I had one available and let it go and suspect I’ll be called again soon and you can buy it if you like

I finally got mine Feb 27th. I had one allocated out of the Dec 20th batch but turned it down due to Xmas logistics. Didn't think it would take 2 months to get another one.
My dealer claims mine was the first he got since that Dec 20th initial batch.
But I just heard my other two friends who also turned down their Dec 20th allocations due to various reasons have copies coming to them next week. So things are picking up a little bit in Canada.
