Owners Nikon Z9 - Card slot sticking

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

One of my card slots is sticking again, I can still get the card out. I have had it repaired once by Nikon ( quite expensive)
Now it is starting again.
Has anyone else had the issue?
Thanks for your time.
Just converted from Canon to Nikon.

I’ve not had this problem. Is it happening with one card or others as well? Did Nikon explain what the prior repair involved?

I'm using angelbird cards and they work fine. It was apparently a mold issue a long time ago that got resolved and hasn't been an issue for a few years. Tolerance stacking being what it is though, it's possible he got a small (but in spec) card slot in his z8 and cards that are slightly larger (but still in spec).

With tight tolerances colder weather can be a factor, too.

I had this problem with a Lexar card that I got from Amazon. I have used Exascend and SanDisk cards with no problem. I sent it back for a refund, because I did not want to break my Z9 fighting to get it out.

I have had two issues with Angelbird cards:

1) Difficult to remove, not fully sticking in the slot, but certainly hard to remove feels like they are a little too large
2) Plastic edges breaking off, has happened to three of my four Angelbird cards, I swapped to Delkin Black and only use them as an emergency spare card now

I have an Angelbird card in slot 1 and a SanDisk card in slot 2. Both spring up when pushed down as expected but both a require a definite 'pull' to remove them - I'm not sure if this is deliberate to stop them falling out as one removes them.

I do have one AB card. Well stop using it and see what happens. Thanks Larry

Not a 'problem', yet.... On several (many several) occasions I notice the card 'stick' and just as I'm about to react, it releases. I see the note above about temperature -- mentioned cold; I'm thinking heat would be the problem e.g. swelling and then given the cards get warm. Also given Nikon 'fixed' the problem I'm thinking it's not so much about temperature contracting and swelling things.... So I'll begin to monitor my card removal and insertion for a bit until I lose all interest , until a card almost 'sticks' again :)

CF type B, SD and other memory cards have different thicknesses and tolerances. Sometimes they can be pulled out very tightly. This is normal. Don't worry, they will soon “rub together”. My Nikon Z8 has a Delkin that gets stuck all the time.
