Pelicans at Tomkins Island, SC

I was able to go out with my friend Eric Horan (https://www.horanphoto.com/) to Tomkins Island to see some brown pelicans. Here are a few of my favorites.

Interesting set of pelicans. I've seen very few images of pelican chicks. I take it that island is a rookery?

That’s something you don’t see very often at all is pelican chicks!

Tomkins is a rookery between Hilton Head Island and Savanah only accessible by boat. There were a lot of terns on the island as well. I didn't realize brown pelicans have a heart shape on their backs for a few weeks when young.
