These guys have limited flying ability, spending most of their time on the ground around sugar cane fields, where they find refuge when threatened. But I caught this guy out of his comfort zone, & he flew into a tree when I came along & surprised him.
They are closely related to Cuckoos, but are the only ones that build their own nests, & raise their young themselves......

Want to go back and get some more of them? They are magnificent when they spread their wings and tail feathers, sadly I don't have any photos.
 
Great find, Scotty! I think I might have caught a glimpse of one on the road from QLD to NSW but could not stop. But he is still on my list to find!
