Hello everyone,

After some long thinking, I picked up a used d850 on eBay with only 1,715 shutter count. The camera looks to be in excellent condition. The owner said he is moving to the Z and no longer needs this camera. It has a 30-day return according to the listing. Is there anything I should check to make sure it functions properly and that it will be a good reliable camera? I will be getting the camera Friday according to the tracking.

From a software standpoint, there's probably not much to worry about. However, I'd certainly test every button and every dial. Make sure nothing sticks, make sure the camera doesn't show signs of impact damages (nicks, dings), make sure your lens mounts smoothly, that sort of thing. Make sure the shutter seems to fire as expected, obviously take a bunch of photos with it too :)

I'd also look carefully at focus. Shoot lenses wide open on closer targets and see if it seems like it's focusing where it should. Make sure the lenses show about equal shapers across the frame too (if not, the mount could be bent). The biggest trick is to really do what you can to put it through its paces. Try it out in as many different scenarios as you can to make sure it seems like everything works.

First if you shoot JPEG then go to the picture control and up the sharpness to +9 ,don't be a wimp +9. If you don't you will be disappointed with the sharpness. If you shoot raw the rear screen will be sharper.
if you shoot birds then you can crop in the menu to 1.2 In AF-C you dont get a beep when it's in focus but at 1.2crop the screen edge goes red when its in focus which I find very helpful.
Second you must must must do the Auto fine focus adjust . Check you are in AF-s on the rear screen or it wont work . I have not found the need to do it multiple times. If you have a lens that goes on a doc then its easy with the auto FFA to fill out the offsets
