A few years ago for various reasons I was persuaded to spend a few days on a beach holiday. I generally do not do beaches but it was the Seychelles!
Although it was a beautiful white beach, there was little happening from a wildlife angle. I did manage to pick out one distant bird with my bins. To my shock it was a bird I have wanted to photograph for years, Crab Plover! A frantic dash to fetch the camera and 15 minutes getting closer and closer and I got my reward!
When I sat down on the beach with my wife and a large cocktail, getting a picture like this was not in my thoughts. A real bonus day!

Nikon D4, 300 f2.8 +1.4, 1/2500 @ f6.3, ISO500

Nice!👍

Very nice image, Dave. It was certainly worth the work you put in to get it.
Its beak looks much stronger and thicker than the usual plovers.

Stunning shot. That shadow nails this shot for me -- superb!
