Portable NAS. Direct Backup. Kickstarter

Looks like an interesting product, a leap in many ways from T7s, etc. I didn’t realize immediately that you have to provide your own M.2 NVMe 2280 PCIe 3.0 and above SSDs, though. Couldn’t determine the speed of the Ethernet port. The built in CFe support is very nice, and it will do incremental backups.

This catagory had so many false starts, I'll wait for a stable product. I wish someone like Samsung made it, or that camera manufacturers (some are doing it) made it easier to transfer directly to an ssd. I understand the complexity.

Essentially, they’re selling their OS and software; they’re likely buying the enclosures from a third-party. (Some commenters have suggested that the device is a familiar Chinese product.) I can see there might be enterprise use cases for this category, such as in sports and events where there might be teams in play in need of portable NAS functionality. A couple of reliable 8T SSDs will set you back $1200+ each. But, personally, I don’t even really use my SanDisk 2T SSD, or even my older 4T WD Passport wireless drive. That said, my kit is generally maintained well above my pay grade; for now, just the buy-in cost will keep me away from this. 🥸

My sentiment; I would go with smaller SSD’s but a strong proof of concept is needed. For those that aren’t aware Anker has a product that attaches an SD card to a iPhone now.

Nikon could make it really easy by having a backup function to a disk via the USB C port. Not sure what is preventing that.
