The background I darkened was the side of my house. There is nothing wrong with the side of my house, but it didn't make for a very appealing image.
Apparently Chinese praying mantis are considered by some to be invasive. They do crowd out the native praying mantis species a bit. Big critters, up to five inches.
Nothing special in the processing, just masking to sharpen the subject and darken the background.
