The first is a dandy photo. Resembles a toadshade, a species I haven't seen in years.

Hey, thanks Woody. Its probably the same species. According to the web, little sweet betsy also is known as whip-poor-will flower, large toadshade, purple toadshade, and bloody butcher.
 
Very nice captured and processed! Little Betsy is a very unusual trillium. In the few times I've gone to the Smokies for spring flowers, I've never seen one like this.
