Very nice!I took a drive around the farmlands surrounding my town on New Year's Day just to get out for a while and shake the cabin fever (had to get my photography fix in - I hadn't taken any pictures recently).
This Red-tailed hawk had just finished eating something since there seemed to be some pinkish blood on its breast feathers. A flock of doves were roosting in another tree close by.
Shutter speed was higher than it needed to be because I expected the bird to fly any minute.

Beautiful! In the abandoned orchard across the street from my house
Lovely! What appears to be a young, red-shouldered hawk. Taken at Myakka River State Park this morning.

Nice! What is it eating?
As Woodyg3 said, it's a crawdad. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CrayfishNice! What is it eating?
I missed that, lol! Question…how do I get the Canadian Flag to show on my posts like you do? (As in where do I put it in my account details?)As Woodyg3 said, it's a crawdad. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crayfish
I don't remember exactly. I hope one of our fellows on the forum will chip in here. There is mention of it here: https://bcgforums.com/threads/buzzard-at-lunch.5999/#post-59105I missed that, lol! Great shot! Worth the walk in the rain, I would say.Steady rain on a dark gloomy day but after being tied up inside during Christmas and New Years festivities for weeks I needed to get out. I was rewarded by a visit from a Juvenile Humpback Whale while on a walk along the beach at Pt. Defiance, Tacoma, WA.View attachment 78123
Wow!Flying Pooch.
I don't usually see them hunting until later in the winter when the snow is deeper. He went 1 for 3 at the breakfast buffet.

Lovely! I can’t help noticing how worn some of the flight feathers are.I went out in the morning to the location where I can view our local bald eagle nest from a distance. I didn’t see much activity at the nest and turned around. I was surprised to see the female incoming with new home improvement items! Fortunately I was holding the camera. It was a nice New Year’s Day.

The lens is a winner and so is this photo!I posted this in the 600 PF thread. Went looking for a pair of eagles and found this happy swan instead. This lens rocks.

I would have been happy to come home with that beautiful shot! Love Canada Jays.Ventured out for the first time today. Kind of a gloomy day. Went to an area known for Spruce Grouse, but all I ran into was a group of Canada Jays.

Thanks KP. I agree. Both the female and male have been pretty active. Egg(s) in the nest around 12/19. Their normal hunting area is a couple of miles from the nest, which they visit every other day or so. They have been together as a pair for about 9 years now, as far as I can determine. Good parents.Lovely! I can’t help noticing how worn some of the flight feathers are.
