Not that I can tell. Once you have pre-capture setup in menu d4 then it’s making sure you’re in a jpeg shooting mode (ex 30fps, 60fps) and pressing the shutter halfway continuously. I haven’t tried it on my Z8 but someone said here that AF-ON held down would do the same thing if you’re in the high speed jpeg shooting modes.

That's why precapture would work if you swapped to it. Precapture only works in the c modes afaik. Might just be 30/60/120 though. I don't use it often enough to remember off hand.

I use this method on my Z9 but the Z9 as this on a drive dial the Z8 doesn’t have so I didn’t know if it worked the same. I never tried it’s not a feature I use often.

In regard to pre capture in JPEG, what form of JPEG does pre capture use? Does it capture in JPEG Normal, or do we get JPEG fine large? I am finding different answers when looking this up.

I've used it in Jpeg large fine.

It looks like the Z9 shoots JPEG large fine at 30 fps and the Z8 only shoots in JEPG normal for all pre capture modes.

Interesting, my Z8 shows JEPG normal. I will have to look into it more then.
