Hi, I am thinking about getting one Karl Zemlin's caps for my Z 600 TC.

To those who have one, or to the man himself, what is the clearance between the front element and the inside of the cap when attached? And is the material inside the cap hard plastic, or a softer material?

I can also see some recessed Allen nuts in there, which although recessed, still make me a tad cautious as i wonder about the potential for them to come loose over time and rattle about on top of the element whilst travelling with the lens etc. Pretty sure my fears are all unfounded and I really like the look of all the innovations he makes, and continues to evolve with user feedback.

Hi Marcus. I have the Zemlin cap for my 800mm PF and I doubt there is much difference in the design on the cap and the clearance at the front of the lenses.
The cap part that is inserted inside the lens is approx 3.5mm - 4mm.
The distance from front seal to lens glass element is 18mm, leaving a clearance of approx 14mm.

The cap is of a very high standard and works brilliantly on my 800. There are no pieces of metal protruding that could cause a problem.
Hope this helps.
