Red Dot Tracking Sight / OVF - Nikon's DFM1

Has anyone tried one of these on a Zed MILC? It may help get around the lag/blackout for tracking moving subjects, especially flying

DF-M1 Dot Sight

Yes it is listed as compatible with the P1000 and P950 but the uk N-Photo Magazine recently confirmed it worked on a D800 and Z7 (May 2020). It's powered by a CR2032 battery

Frank this kind of dotsights do work, at least a good one does, BUT since you need to put it in the hotshoe or on a bracket the dotsight will always be offset caused by the (little, but still) play between the shoe and dotsight.
Problematic? No not really BUT (again that darned but) it means you need to calibrate every time before using it.
Then... if you have it calibrated it will work for a certain distance because of ‘paralax-error’
(The real thing aka red dot sights for hunting like the leupolds I use on my huntingrifles are WAY more expensive and almost paralaxfree.)
As a matter of fact I once had a L-grip modded with a ‘real’ dotsight and piccatiny rail for my youngest and the D500 plus 600G she used back then.
She used it a few times, learned how to use the screws on the lenshood to find and track her subject and never used it again...

I purchased one on ebay intended as a Gunsight about £15 ...works perfect .. you can adjust L/R U/D and then always put it in the flash shoe rotated full left . Makes finding distant birds easy or just put it on the BIF and shoot away

hahaha sorry to burst your bubble but you won’t get a gunsight for 15 buck.
Let me guess? Chinese?
FYI when you’re looking in a real red dot sight the red dot will stay on the target no matter from the angle or how far away from it you’re looking at it.
These cheap dotsights with all kind of intensities, colours and shapes are toys, not paralaxfree and not corrected or accurate.
(I’ve tested a whole lot of this sights for a hunting magazine)
A good dot sight costs a lot of money, to give you an idea

Got to agree with you there Roger, the Trijicon RMR I bought (not for camera use!) was way north of 15USD :)
