Red-headed bush crickets are fairly common in my area, but they're much smaller than a field cricket and few people notice them. They're quite colorful and good subjects for macro since they're usually about 3/16 inch long.

What you're looking at are its palps, which are some of its mouthparts. They're usually extended forward to detect scents.
