Red Necked Falcon collection. Nikon D500 with 400mm 2.8 and 1.4 TC. My first trip with the D500. Fairly pleased with the output.

Wow, beautiful set and that 1.4 TC makes me want to add one to my D500 & 500mm PF.
Just know that Nikon's 400mm f/2.8 lenses are pretty much the best in class at accepting teleconverters. And at f/2.8 a 1.4x TC only takes it to f/4 as opposed to adding it to a f/5.6 lens like the 500mm PF taking it to a wide open f/8 lens. I've tried the 500mm PF + TC 14 iii combo on the D500 (and the D850, D5) and though image quality is very good the AF performance on DSLRs is pretty terrible.

But for some high contrast subjects in good light AF can work and if you run it as a manual focus combo the combo definitely can work and yield great IQ.

I was just getting ready to send you a PM and ask that very question if you have used the TC 14E. Thanks for the response.
