Snapping turtles have been swimming in wetlands, going on shore to nest and migrating from one pond/marsh to another for about 90 million years. A true relic from the age of dinosaurs.
This beauty walked across the path in front of me yesterday. It wasn't huge as snapping turtles go but it was a pretty large one, most likely breeding age about 10-12 years old.

I find these creatures interesting and I always am excited to see one.
