There's a reason why local photographers capture the best images of iconic locations. Below are four images of a glacier that we pass by every time we go out on our boat on Prince William Sound. Have passed by this spot probably 150 times or so over the past ten years.

1) This is how it looks most of the time.

2) And on the occasional (mostly) clear day.

3) But of course clouds can make for interesting shots.

4) But you can't beat good light.

Great series.

Living in a place with a lot of iconic landscape locations it hit me years ago that landscape photography hugely dependent on: seasons, weather and light. That can be a bummer when you travel to a great spot but those things don't line up for you but it's also really encouraging in the sense that even if a location has been photographed thousands of times you can still capture a unique and compelling image if you get there on the right day. It's what keeps me going back and revisiting locations I've shot hundreds of times :)

Absolutely fantastic NF .. The light on the mountains is simply beautiful as is the reflective light on the ocean ...
Thanks for the comments. With light like that all you have to do is not mess it up.
Great series.

Thanks for the reply. I rarely get really compelling landscape images when I travel. Pure chance once in a while.
Dan, great, great series.
