Yes, they are, and every time I see or hear one, I think of velociraptors.They are really interesting birds. Look and sound prehistoric.
I'm confident that it is, being that it's the sandhill crane capital of the world. I'd love to make it out that way someday, if $$$ ever permits. Someone else told me recently that there's a place somewhere south of Denver, "Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge", that gets a lot of sandhill cranes, as well during their migration. About 20, 000 strong I understand. I can't imagine what that must sound like. Until then I'll just have to settle for a few "cro-croaks." which I still find to be pleasing.The group noise of thousands of Sandhills at Kearney NE in the spring is breathtaking.
