Joseph, magical sighting of this poison ivy of the sea! That mugshot is SO nice!
One early rule you learn about diving - The prettier it is, the uglier it is or the more colofful it is, the more you need to stay away from it! Scorpionfish believe they are well camouflaged, so if you maintain a little distance they will “pose” well for multiple angles and shots. They often remain in place for hours so you can get a few shots on the way out, a few on the. Way back and a few more on the next dive if you wish. I will avoid the mother-in-law comment from my end, though my wife would likely agree with you from her view.
 
Nice series. Great to see some aquatic images, first I have seen. Interesting point you make about territorial predators like the stonefish. Was working on an underwater nature trail and had a lion fish take up post about 12 inches from me every day.
