Nikon D6; 300 pf (+1.4) As mentioned in another post the Canada Geese I was hoping to catch BIF or landing/taking off from water yesterday, as I practiced my use of AF modes, simply didn't cooperate. A bunch of ring billed gulls had to do so I scared 'em into flight and when they circled back I successfully (though I'm thinking AF grabbed that port side wing not the head) nabbed this girl coming in for a landing.

@ssheipel Try increasing ( F4 to f6.3) your f stop to give yourself a little more depth of field .... Especially to start off. With all the fantastic Tools we have in PP now you can easily blur the background more if needed. as you get better panning BIF you will get better tracking them and can go back to opening up your lens.

Thanks for the good advice!

So I haven't used PS at all -- but for recent stacking and really never used it ever for anything but adjusting levels (before I simply never left Lightroom) -- for near 15 years I'd say. So to take your advice, I had to first take a 'learn the basics in an hour' course on Scott Kelby's site and then went to use what I learned to bokeh the background of this photo.... and then thought why not put the gull over some water, and the grass turned blue looks so much like choppy water! LOL :ROFLMAO: Made for a good learning sample. Eeegad, the healing tools alone are so much better in PS! So, thanks again. I have been meaning to learn photoshop for decades.

There's no valid reason to scare wildlife.
