I had a great couple of hours at a local site to which the short-eared owls have returned for the winter. There was one individual that was particularly vocal and seemed to be chasing the other for food. I wondered if this might hve been the offspring from a breeding pair that had stayed for the summer. No way of knowing knowing though.
