Had a interesting and exciting morning with the Short Eared Owls. It was cold and wet standing on the edge of this field but the owls and harriers put on a show for a couple of hours. Here's a few of the shots I was able to get.

Beautiful! I'm actually planning to go to a nearby location tomorrow afternoon where Short-eared Owls and Northern Harriers have been spotted. These will definitely serve as inspiration! I've actually never photographed them before. Do you have any advice/tips?

Thanks guys, Short Eared Owls are fun and challenging to shoot. In their normal habitat there usually isn't much contrast between the owls and the background so acquiring focus can be a challenge.

I know of a series of fields where they are near me, but so far this year they are only flying when it is too dark to photograph them, even with my D5. Hopefully they will shift behavior in the next couple of weeks.

Fred, same thing around here. For most of the past few weeks it's been a challenge for my D5 as well. I keep watching the forecast for an opening and then off I go. Good luck.
