NX Studio can show the AF area but not the point(s). Is there anything that will display the points on an image?

NX Studio can actually show you the AF point as well. Just right click on the image and select show AF points. The way it works, i think is, if the camera is able to track the eye, it shows the exact focus point. If not, it shows the bigger AF box, depending on which AF Area mode you use (like WIDE-S, L etc). If you used Auto area AF and the camera was not able to detect the eye, then it shows a cluster of small boxes on where it focused.
