Sigma 500mm F.5.6 DG DN Sport Lens a light weight option at a modest price point

Having just spent a week with a rental copy of this lens on a Sony a1 I found it to be remarkable easy to handle at just over 2 lbs and very capable in terms if IQ and AF performance.
In comparison to my current birding lens- the Sony 200-600 mm G OSS_ it is considerably sharper in the corners and a bit sharper in the center wide open. Af is very fast and silent and build quality
is solid. The light weight made it easier to hand hold and reduced my motion blur considerable compared to the heavier 200-600. This led to more keepers. It would be great if Steve could demo this lens and give us his impression, comparing itto other wildlife and action lens options

With canon opening up the Rf mount finally, I wonder if this will ever migrate over to it, would be awesome to see. As I’m not ready to migrate over to mirrorless yet, I’m quite content waiting to see what happens over the next year with the brands. I just hope if they do they allow sigma to make a teleconverter that works with it!

Though I used one for years a 500 mm is a rather quixotic FL for WL - not quite long enough, not quite wide enough. Mine used to sit attached to a TC and while I missed the sharpness, I much preferred a 600 f/4.
