Orcus Checkered Skipper butterfly. Often looking like day flying moths, Skipper butterflies aren't as usually as brightly coloured as this one, but then many rain forest butterflies are deliberately ostentatious so as to make them stand out from the greenery to attract mates. Taken with D750 and Nikon 105mm. plus 1.4 TC @ 150mm. f4.2, ISO 450, 1/800 Sec.. Handheld. 01/03/17.

Nice capture! I really like the detail of the butterfly and the way you separated it out from the background. The subject being off-centered makes for a pleasing composition. Good work.

Thanks JFW --- You would be surprised at how long I took about the subject's placement on what is such an uncluttered image !

Spread winged skipper? Never knew there were so many different wing shapes. Only ever saw the slanted wing type. Live and lsarn😁🙄
Hi Callie, looked up Adrian Hoskins site learn about butterflies and I too was staggered to discover how many of the Flat and Sread wing skippers there are around the neo tropical and temperate areas. Totally different in appearance to the delta winged examples we get in the UK.-- as you say, L & L .
