Finally have some damselflies arriving. Definitely my favorite time of year with insects.

Super shots! This is not trying to be a "smart ass" but does the Sony track the bug's eyes?

If so....I will probably have to get the A1 and 100-400 zoom!!! After emergency knee surgery last summer, I cannot get up and down using that knee. It really hard to stand up with only one knee working correctly!!

Honestly I’ve only shot just a few bugs the last couple days so I’m not sure. Today is the first damselfly I’ve seen here this year. I will certainly let you know if it does though. I have to say that the 90mm macro is certainly just as sharp as the Nikon 105. I’m just so grateful how small everything is. I just had my last surgery at Mayo 5.5 weeks ago on my right arm and this change has really helped me. It does track bugs really well but I’ll have to get back with you on the eyes.

So, you are ok with the 200 -600 vs the 100 -400? I really want the 600, but I don't need the weight with my shoulder issues (which are a lot better after months of Pain and Torture ( PT !!). I shoot 90% of my outdoor macro with my 300 PF so both lenses would do the job. Although I am not especially into "birds in flight", I sure won't mind getting some good shots!

I plan on keeping my Nikon Z6 and 500D, but the A1 with a 100-400 is really calling me!!!! I like the size and the image performance.

I do most of my "super macro" indoors in my diabolical macro setup!

I absolutely love the Sony 100-400 and that will most likely be my insect and flower setup. I just happened to get these guys while out with the 200-600. The 100-400 Sony is very light and extremely sharp.

Here is a size comparison if you want to see the difference between the 200–600 and the 100–400. I never got to use the Nikon version because I was never able to acquire one but this is the fastest focusing zoom lens I have ever used. I did get the 70–200 as well but I think the 100–400 focus is just as fast as the version two 70–200 mm.

Yikes! It looks like the 100-400 would be a lot easier to handle in my mobile blind or trail hikes!
The 200-600 isn’t bad at all because it’s an external zoom and the 100/400 is not. Even with the condition of my arms, I don’t have much issue using my cotton carrier vest for 2-3 hours at a time with the 200/600. The camera body is light as a feather.
