I was in Costa Rica recently with my family and all of the sloths we had seen were either high up in trees or in small little curled up balls. On the way down to the beach I spotted one (an impressive feat for me) in a tree and figured this was my best chance at getting a decent picture. When we returned from the beach 3 hours later it was still there. My wife and kids went back to the hotel and I had my camera with me so I decided to wait for it to raise its head so I could at least get a picture of the face. I waited for about an hour and my wife texted me a few times asking A) If I was still standing there and B) How long I planned on standing there? (I also had the kids ipads in my backpack and they wanted those). A group of howler monkeys came by and it still didn't really move! This was the best picture I got
Getting ready to leave I happened to turn around and was thrilled to see a male sloth coming down a tree right behind me! I was so focused on the other sloth that if I had not paid attention to my surroundings I would have completely missed him. Or I just got really lucky which is probably as important.
I tried to get creative with this b&w close up
