If anyone is from southern New England, you might recall the famous Fitzi from a National Wildlife Refuge in RI. I make the trek 3 times during the late winter of 2019 only hear stories of how active he was the day before. I think of the 3 times I was there I spent well over 20 hours watching him sit on the roof of the visitor's center. The 4th trip was my final and most productive. I decided to arrive earlier than sun-up as I had previously. I had heard he liked to sit on a certain light pole and just around sunrise, would fly to the roof. I got there as the sky was just starting to brighten and sure enough, he was on the lightpole. I found a position which I guessed would be close to his eventual flight path and just after sunrise, he flew by me to the roof. He was active on and off the rest of the day, even made a couple of failed hunting attempts. I finally left as the sun disappeared behind clouds on the western horizon. It was a long day, 12 hours on site (hand holding a 600EFL) and another 2 hrs driving each way but was by far the best.
