Seems awful quiet on the snowy owl front this year. Has anyone seen/photographed one? Tomorrow I will get up early and search the regular spots. Long drive and expectations are low but I have to try at least once before it is too late for the year. Alarm is set.

Haven’t seen any reports. I’ve been looking as well.

There has been a couple in Massachusetts but like you said very quiet. Seems like the ones here have just been passing through. Normally even is slow years there is at least one who winters in my area but not this year.

Project SnowStorm predicted a big irruption this year but so far not many have been reported in NY state. Hopefully that will change. Not a lot of snow and ice this year, and the lakes aren’t frozen as the normally are. https://www.audubon.org/news/hold-your-bins-another-blizzard-snowy-owls-could-be-coming

Ypu can check out eBird, which more or less confirms relatively few sighting so far https://ebird.org/map/snoowl1?neg=t...xcludeExAll=false&mr=1-12&bmo=1&emo=12&yr=cur

A few were spotted in the UP, though I haven't seen any in the lower peninsula in MI. I don't think it will happen this year, which is highly unusual.

I did manage to find one bird Friday but even when she flew, it was way too far away to get a good shot. Heavily cropped to no avail.

There were very few last year and even fewer this year in South-Western Ontario -- only a couple have been seen around Sarnia (Port Huron MI area) from what I can gather.
