Sony colours

I was having the A1 discussion with a photographer who currently shoots Sony, albeit weddings, his second shooter uses Nikon and the colours his second shooter gets vs what he gets, he is strongly considering a jump to Nikon to minimise his post-processing time. A quick google search, attempting to dodge the paid reviewers etc, seems like this is a real thing with Sony for portraiture.

For the wildlife shooters here who have shot with Sony and Nikon, is this noticeable and/or relevant?

There are relatively easy to use methods to calibrate cameras so the color is the same no matter which camera is used. For example colorchecker passport photo is a standard set of color patches that you take a picture of with each camera in two different lighting conditions then run the included software. It returns a lightroom profile for each camera that makes the color the same for both cameras. Can be put in a camera specific preset so it automatically loads on import.

I think the worry about color is overblown, at least for wildlife work. I was leery of Sony because of the internet megaphone, but I actually like the colors from my a9ii quite a bit. I don't find that it takes any more effort with my a9ii files than my Nikon files to get the look I want. I think maybe Nikon's JPEGs may be nicer out of the camera, but I don't know for sure. Sony colors seem accurate to me and I'm posting some images below so you can see as well. These really didn't get any special treatment, color is pretty close to what the camera gave me. Thought of another way, I don't think shooting Nikon would have improved these colors.

There you go Steve, I think you made the point, terrible, terrible colors and I'll be happy to take all that Sony gear off your hands because one clearly can't get anything right with those Sonys

All joking aside, those are jaw dropping. Are those taken with the 600mm f:4 or the zoom? Not that it matters, I am just in awe at how they jump off the screen.

Thanks - The swallow was with the 100-400 (great lens) and the rest were with the 600mm (the bluebird & raccoon was + 600mm + 1.4tc)

Two cameras are going to have different colors. Both are fine on their own. Even the same camera model with different lenses can be a little different. But it makes a difference for things like product photos, weddings, publications, etc. If they put together a wedding album and the flowers, bride and groom skin tones, and clothes look different from album page to album page it would not look professional.
