Thank you. Sure not seeing very much here so far for some reason. It is normally far more active this time of the year. Have you seen much there in KY?Very nice set
I haven't been out as much this spring as I usually do (doctors and hospitals dealing with aging parents... mom fell which caused a whole chain reaction moving mom and dad to assisted living, cleaning out their house, etc.)Thank you. I have basically seen no butterflies, dragonflies or damselflies here. Not even a robber flyI haven't been out as much this spring as I usually do (doctors and hospitals dealing with aging parents... mom fell which caused a whole chain reaction moving mom and dad to assisted living, cleaning out their house, etc.)
However, the times I have been out not as many insects as usual. We have had an unusually wet and cool spring which may be behind the scarcity of insects and spiders. Just started seeing tiger swallowtails last week. No fire flies yet.
Heck, I just got my wife's flower beds planted yesterday. It's been too wet to till up the soil. Hopefully things will get back to normal in the next week.

Earlier in the spring, I saw some question marks, mourning cloaks, spring azures and just this week a couple tiger swallowtails. I've seen a few damselflies. My wife got some photos of green darners ovipositing a couple weeks ago but it has been really slow. Usually by the first week of June, I've switched from wildflowers to damsels and dragons and by mid June seeing the first fawns walking around in the fields.I have basically seen no butterflies, dragonflies or damselflies here. Yeah, hopefully after it warms up a bit though I’ll start to emerge, but it sure is been the slowest May that I ever remember seeing anywhere by the way sorry to hear about your parents. I’m sure that’s tough Keeping up with all of that.Earlier in the spring, I saw some question marks, mourning cloaks, spring azures and just this week a couple tiger swallowtails. For example, it has been raining all morning and it is only 57 degrees with 47 as wind chill. That is 17 degrees below our average for today. It has been this way all spring except for a couple days last week when it got up to about 80.
Looks like this cold snap will hold on through the weekend with moderation in the 70's by mid week. Still 5-8 degrees below normal but a welcome warm up. Of course, the weather is calling for rain Mon, Tue, Wed, next week .
Hopefully things will pick up when the weather moderates some.
Thank you. It's been pretty sad but they seem to be adjusting to the new normal.Yeah, hopefully after it warms up a bit though I’ll start to emerge, but it sure is been the slowest May that I ever remember seeing anywhere by the way sorry to hear about your parents. Not just "saying it" but sincerely best wishes as your family faces the future.Yeah my parents are getting up in age as well
we had a fairly warm and sunny day today. Saw a couple silver spotted skippers, a few spring azures, pond hawks, and a few widow skimmers. Not huge numbers but was good to see them out today. Also a very pretty northern water snake and a couple 6 spotted fishing spiders. I haven't gone through my photos yet but hopefully I got a few keepers. Also, golden backed snipe flies were mating all over the place.Yeah, hopefully after it warms up a bit though I’ll start to emerge, but it sure is been the slowest May that I ever remember seeing anywhere by the way sorry to hear about your parents. Yes it will open the Flickr link since this site has such small limitations on images. It also shows all EXIF dataThose are really cool. So because you have a link, I could check it later on my desktop and big screen to really appreciate them in full res?
