Stacking Filters on a Nikon 17-55 F/2.8

I recently picked up a Nikon 17-55mm F/2.8 for my D500 and D7500. Being old school, I like to keep a NC filter on my lens for some degree of protection. My question is for when I need to use a circular polarizer. While I can and will test it for myself, in the interest of shortening the learning curve, I am wondering if anyone that has experience with this lens, knows if I can stack a CPL on top of the NC without vignetting at 17mm, or do I need to remove the NC to use the CPL. Both the NC and CPL II are Nikon. Thanks in advance for your advice.

As a general practice with any lens, I avoid stacking two filters because of possible image degradation caused by the additional air/glass surfaces on the second filter (even with high-quality multi-coated filters). You're better off removing the NC filter when using the polarizer.

There are times when I've used two filters on a lens for a special effect, like using a red filter plus a polarizer when shooting film to get a black sky, or a polarizer plus a close-up filter when getting a close-up of a reflective subject.
