Steves A1 set up guide

If you would like to post, you'll need to register. Note that if you have a BCG store account, you'll need a new, separate account here (we keep the two sites separate for security purposes).

Yes it will cover all AF settings and AF modes. A1 isn’t very complicated for BIF.

Everyone has there preferences but I stick to this 95% of the time:
AF-C
Release Priority
Wide AF (regular, non-tracking version)
AF sensitivity at 1 (locked on)

Sometimes use Zone
Occasionally use Tracking
Wide and Zone prioritize something centered in the AF area so use this to your advantage to get it started on your intended subject.
I also use a healthy dose of Manual focus override to get things started.

Thanks for your interest!

Yup, as mentioned above, it covers settings for BIF - BUT - keep in mind it's not a dedicated guide to BIF photography so it's not 300 pages of BIF info. I do have a more general BIF guide of course, but for settings the a1 setup guide will get you there. As Geoff says, it's pretty straightforward with the a1.

One thing I think a lot of people miss that Arbitrage has hit on: Subject recognition can be very helpful, but Sony's AF, even without it works quite well. Additionally, in addition to subject tracking which identifies the subject, Sony also has regular non-subject recognition tracking which can be quite useful in different scenarios as well (I don't use it for BIF, but I've used it for focus and recompose for all types of photography). Don't fear the dancing squares (no tracking) or the box with bars top and bottom (non-subject racking).
