I thought you might find this interesting even though it is not backcountry. It still is an impressive show of nature I have only now seen once in my life as a complete ring. Last Wednesday it was very cold in the early morning and ice crystals in the air painted this sun halo together with parhelia to the left and right into the winter sky. I did not have correct settings for my Nikon pointed directly at the sun, but it worked well with my handy - just another example that the most expensive camera will not help make a good picture if you are too stupid to dial in the correct settings and the motive is more important than the the camera...
