Sunday with Nikon's forgotten camera (D6) :)

With the Z9 in for repairs I again had to slum it with ancient technology, the D6 :D Gotta admit it felt strange for the first hour or so manually tracking. I didn't bother revisiting 3D on the D6 as the subjects were relatively stationary. Were ultimately expensive shots to get as the lens hood on my 500 pf dropped off at some point, and as I was on marked trail maybe for about 50 metres for my 6 or so kms of treking through the snow looking for Snowy Owls, I didn't bother back tracking to look for it. A $cdn100 piece of poorly engineered plastic. I had meant to tape that hood on as I was, as I rarely do, carrying the gear on a strap hanging at my hip (recipe for working the hood off I figure).
A Kestral, north america's smallest Falcon at 10 inches or less, and a winter visitor to Toronto, a Dark-eyed Junco (slate version).

Is it me, or when it's about IQ ancient technology (not that ancient, anyway), seems to be better ? Those shoots look even like they were not done with a pf lens; even in the second shoot with branches in the background. Really nice bokey and sharp but not oversharpened in dof area (doesn't seems to need too much unatural "recent technology" sharpening software).
Nice shoots. IQ like I like.

Aw man that's simply awful having to put up with such an old forgotten camera body! You made it work though.

Just let me know when you're suffering the indignity of shooting it, and I'll very happily take it off your hands. One man's rubbish, right? ;)

Nice shots from your ancient technology! Sorry about the lost lens hood too. Hope you get your Z9 back soon.
Thanks. No word from Nikon since initial conversation so assuming problem isn't obvious. Maybe I'll get the 600 before I get the z9 back :)

Thanks. I've always been impressed by the sharpness of the 500 pf, even when as here it's got the 1.4 tc attached. And I was just kidding of course calling the D6 ancient -- I think the camera is great.

The photo of the kestrel is a dandy. I've taken to using inexpensive screw-in aluminum lens hoods, they're light, don't break and I've never had one come off -- the only filters I ever use are CPL and ND for waterfall/landscape so the hoods never come off my long lenses.

Nice shots Steven. You should take a long look at the Zemlin hoods. A lot less money and better designed. Different lengths available too. I have them on a couple of my long lenses.

You seem like a great guy, the camera's yours! Due to shipping and supply chain issues, shipping of the camera to PA will be cdn$6,000 :)

Couple of nice shots. I thought that thing automatically stopped working the day the Z9 came in the door. But, hey, I guess it started back up when the Z9 left.
HA, yup thought DSLRs died; pulled the D6 down from a shelf of antiques for the day :) Thanks, Dan.

Excellent pictures. That dark eyed junco is a cutie. I can never get one on a tree branch. Ours always stay on the ground where my wife puts down the seeds.

I just recently got the 300mm PF and the TC-14E III. Saving up for the 500mm PF.

You say you don't have to give ISO a second thought. I've been using Manual with auto ISO on my D6 but have been reluctant to go beyond 12,800 ISO. What is your max ISO?
