I took this photo a few days ago while on Galveston Island. I like the way it looks, but am open to any constructive criticism you guys can offer. The sun was already a little high and more harsh than I would prefer, but I did my best to soften things up in Lightroom.

What are your thoughts?

It's a shame that the sun is blown out as that limits what you can do in post. The raw image might allow some more exposure reduction than this JPG suggests, though, so it might be worth trying to reduce highlights/whites, and warm up the image. What strikes me is that the sun is very bright, so I expect more contrast; I guess you softened it, as you say, more than I would do. You could also consider the crop. I think it might be a stronger image if it was either 2/3rd sky, or 2/3rd foreground, instead of nearly 50/50.
