After spending about 3/4 hour looking for these Tawny Frogmouths, I finally found them in a much more sheltered spot away from the gusty winds.

Nice set. They're such unusual birds with how well they're camouflaged. I bet you've never heard that said before. ;)
I'm just curious, did their calls attract you to them?

Practice mainly and looking out for the pose, things like bumps or broken branches on trees, feathers moving in the breeze, lots of tell tale signs you just need to know what they are and where to look( from the ground up).

I am sure that there are many other animals that are well camouflaged and are just as hard to spot.

No, just by sight, they do call but as they are nocturnal it is mostly at night.
